International Asthma Services Inc. dba Saahns is a registered 501(c)(3) charitable organization headquartered in Colorado, USA, dedicated to improving breathing since 1992.

How Saahns began

Born and raised in Mysore, India, Dr. Vedanthan — affectionately known as Dr. PK — is an American Board-certified specialist in Allergy and Asthma who has been based in Colorado since 1974. Through his visits to his native land beginning in the 1970s, he became profoundly aware of the urgent need to assist the vast number of asthma patients who lacked access to proper care.

International Asthma Services Inc. dba Saahns was started in 1992 as a registered 501(c)(3) organization in Colorado, USA. Over the subsequent decades, the reach of IAS has expanded to Kenya, the Philippines, Mauritius, Argentina, and Fiji, with Dr. PK joined by a growing network of dedicated physicians and volunteers across the globe. More recently, he has expanded this commitment to improving the quality of the air we breathe.

Our Mission

To improve the quality of life, education, and treatment programmes, as well as the healthcare infrastructure, primarily in developing countries, for patients suffering from lung conditions.

Our Objectives

Saahns provides charitable services to patients suffering from asthma and allergies around the world by:

  1. Organizing asthma awareness camps
  2. Building free charitable clinics
  3. Arranging transfer of medical equipment across continents
  4. Expanding post-MD educational programmes in allergy, asthma, and immunology

Dr. P. K. Vedanthan nominated for the Padma Shri Award 2027

Dear colleagues, students, alumni and friends —

We are pleased to share that our beloved teacher Dr. P. K. Vedanthan, an internationally respected physician, educator, and pioneer in Allergy and Clinical Immunology, has been nominated for the Padma Shri Award 2027 in recognition of his lifelong contributions to medicine, medical education, and allergy care.

Over several decades, Dr. Vedanthan has inspired and mentored generations of physicians across India and around the world. Through his commitment to patient care, academic excellence, research, and international collaboration, he has played a pivotal role in advancing the field of Allergy and Immunology and in nurturing future leaders in the specialty.

Many of you who have trained under him, collaborated with him, or have been influenced by his work are an integral part of this remarkable journey. We extend our warmest congratulations to Dr. Vedanthan on this well-deserved recognition and wish him every success in the Padma Shri 2027 selection process.
